Bischofsheim is located in the center of four, so-called "Bath"-cities,
each with volcanic mineral sources ("Bad" means "bath" or "-les-bains").
You can directly drink the mineral water at the captured sources near the so-called "Kurhauses".
The water from these sources has a very strong taste which comes from volcanic minerals (e.g.
sulphur), which were dissolved during many decades or maybe even centuries deep in the earth,
and traditionally was and is still used to cure a variety of maladies. This so-called
Heilwasser ("healing-water") created a medical infrastructure in each of these cities.
The processed mineral water is also sold in bottles country-wide.
- Bad Kissingen, with Kurhaus, salt-salines, park, and Casino (Roulette; tie mandatory for men), located 35km to the south,
- Bad Brückenau, located 25km to the west,
- Bad Neustadt/Salz, located 25km to the southeast, which has a public indoor/outdoor
swimming pool with high-density, hot mineral water and artificial waves; a water
brigde crosses from interieur to exterieur (even in winter), and last but not least
- Bad Königshofen, with their famous spas (public indoor swimming pool, steam sauna, etc),
located 30 km to the east - very recommended.
