Places to visit

• The idyllic Basaltsee can reached from Bischofsheim via the Hochrhönstrasse. Swimming is allowed but not guarded.
• Hike directly from the guesthouse Melitta to the Monestary called Kloster Kreuzberg, located near the top of the Kreuzberg summit (932m), 450m denivelation (elevation difference). Visit the church and then taste the deep brown, yeasty Kloster-beer. (They also sell mineral water for those who drive.) In the summer season and week-ends, this is a crowded big beer-garden, offering a romantic view over the Rhön mountains. Childrens of any age are allowed on their premises. From the Kreuzberg, it is possible to hike to the Feuerberg located further to the West, which also offers a superb view over the middle alps.
• Drive or hike to the Wasserkuppe, another 950m high mountain nearby located in the north.

• Bischofsheim is located in the center of four, so-called "Bath"-cities, each with volcanic mineral sources ("Bad" means "bath" or "-les-bains"). You can directly drink the mineral water at the captured sources near the so-called "Kurhauses". The water from these sources has a very strong taste which comes from volcanic minerals (e.g. sulphur), which were dissolved during many decades or maybe even centuries deep in the earth, and traditionally was and is still used to cure a variety of maladies. This so-called Heilwasser ("healing-water") created a medical infrastructure in each of these cities. The processed mineral water is also sold in bottles country-wide. Bad Kissingen, with Kurhaus, salt-salines, park, and Casino (Roulette; tie mandatory for men), located 35km to the south, Bad Brückenau, located 25km to the west, Bad Neustadt/Salz, located 25km to the southeast, which has a public indoor/outdoor swimming pool with high-density, hot mineral water and artificial waves; a water brigde crosses from interieur to exterieur (even in winter), and last but not least Bad Königshofen, with their famous spas (public indoor swimming pool, steam sauna, etc), located 30 km to the east - very recommended.

• Bamberg, the city with the many beergardens (called "Keller" which stands for the sand-stone graved cellars, where the beer was stored during summer until one generation ago) and their tasty smoke-beer (for example the Spezial-Bräu, Spezi-Keller, and the Schlenkerla brewery) is located 90 minutes to the east. There are about 200 independent private microbreweries some of which are many hundred years old, in this area.
• Erlangen, the city with the famous botanic garden of the Friedrich-Alexander University, is located two hours to the southeast.
• Würzburg, the famous vine and dine city is located one hour to the south.
• Rothenburg ob der Tauber, the famous medieval city, which attracts tourists worldwide, is located two hours to the south.
